Science by HFHS

This week for science we watched a video on the impact of asteroids and the massive numbers of them that cross the path of the earth. It was astonishing to see how many asteroids cross the path of the earths orbit. There are asteroid the size of Manhattan island floating out in space. The show was mostly about a geologist named Gene Shoemaker and his quest to prove his theory of impact and how he had dreamed to got to the moon an test it. It was a great video. One of my favorite parts was when they showed a commits impact on Jupiter.
The show was officially called National Geographic: Asteroids Deadly Impact

Math by HFHS

9th grade lesson 51-Negative Exponents, Scientific notation for negative numbers.

- The thing about this lesson that stuck out to me was the negative exponents. They are very much the same as normal exponents except the fact that the decimal goes the other way and it has a negative sign.

7th grade lesson 51- Scientific notation for large numbers.

– I enjoyed this lesson because it was very easy if it is a large number just make a decimal and count the zeros. At first i got stuck and then I realized just count the zeros and make a decimal as simple as that and i was doing all this crazy page long math problems to figure it out . Thank you mother for the help.

Game Making by HFHS

On Monday, November 28th we started the proses of making our new game. At first we tried to use a game making engine called Steam. Steam was a cool engine, but the games that we wanted to use for textures was not made or supported by steam, so we weren’t able to use them. The engine that we found that would work is called Unity.  It is supposed to be more user friendly but we didn’t think that. It actually turned out that it is supposed to be better in the long run. The Steam engine that we would have used was call Hammer Editor and it seemed more user friendly but this opinion could be because we watched multiple videos on Hammer so we new what we were doing with it and we didn’t really watch any videos for it.

We really were excited to use the Hammer Editor and when we found out that we were not going to get to use it we were mildly upset but the Unity Engine is an okay engine. the games that Unity has put out before were kinda a reassuring sign that it would be a good engine.

Auto mechanics by HFHS

Today, September 15th, we started the process of dropping the transmission in our truck. All that we did today was drain the transmission fluid which consisted of taking out about 16 bolts and dumping the fluid into a pan and then putting it is something that we could recycle it in. After that we put the transmission fluid pan back on. After cleaning up the mess that was made we went in the house and took a well needed shower.

The Mysterious lump by HFHS

Today, September 1st, I had my CT-Scan up in Lubbock. When we got up there My body felt nervous but my mind knew that I had nothing to be nervous about. We went in to the room where we signed in and filled out all of the paper work again. Then they took us down to the Radiology area where they filled out some paper work. While we were waiting for them to call us back I read today’s “In Conversation with God”. Almost immediately after I finished reading they came out to get us and we went back in to the CT-Scan room. In the CT-Scan room they gave me an IV but I felt like a baby because I thought that the IV was going to hurt a lot worse then it did. They flushed the IV with saline twice, which was weird because I could smell it, and then they did the contrast twice. The first time they did the contrast it made  my chest warm and the second made just my hand warm. We were finished in no time at all. thank yall for the prayers.

Philmont 10 by HFHS

When we awoke from the hunting lodge we packed ate and got moving. We were headed for tooth ridge, the camp near th tooth of time. The trail was up hill and was very shady so the shade made up for the incline. When we reached the top of the ridge we started to decline. We were so excited because we thought the trail was almost over but it actually far off. We thought this is the switch back no this is the switch back till finally we reached it. The rest of the terrain was very rocky and very hard to walk on. We finally reached the camp we set up camp and ate. Then we went to bed.

The next morning was the last day on the trail we were headed to base camp. The trail was short but it was hot and had no shade. After a mile of hiking in the heat we reached the bottom and entered camp. After returning some gear we enjoyed our last day at Philmont Scout Ranch.

Philmont 9 by HFHS

The next morning we awoke to a fairly good temperature but it was weird to wake up in the lean-to building. We quickly ate breakfast and got on the trail to hunters lodge. The trail was of a good difficulty for most of the trip that day. About 1 mile from Cypher’s Mine we saw a bear. the bear was a full grown black bear that was only slightly interested in us. we were just happy that we got to be able to see a bear before the trek was over. the rest of the trail was, like i said, of a good difficulty. When we got to the hunting lodge we went and reported the bear to the staff member that brought us to our camp site. We set up camp and then we headed up to Cimarroncito where most of us went climbing while the others went to Ute gulch to get the rest of the food.the rock climbing was very fun but also very terrifying. when the people got back from getting food we all went in to the bouldering gym where  we got to climb on walls. After these fun activities we went back to hunters lodge, ate dinner, and went to bed.

Philmont 8 by HFHS

The next morning we got up and had a nice hot skillet breakfast the first and only hot breakfast on the trail. We took down camp and got moving. Our destination was Cypher’s mine. The trail was down hill the entire way. It took almost no time to get there. When we arrived we went up on the porch, and met the staff there. When we got up there they told us that we had to have a pretend fight between a dinosaur and a chicken to determine who’s Barbie was prettier to find out where our camp site was. After we made a fool of our selves they took us to our camp site where we found that we would be sleeping in a lean to shack. Later we went to a mine tour which was really awesome. They told us about the miners. Then we went back to the very back stopping to explain the purpose of curtain markings or holes, and then we ran out of the mine with all the lights off. If you have never felt dark than that would be your chance. After exiting we went back to camp and relaxed till dinner then we went to bed.

Philmont 7 by HFHS

The next morning we woke up and quickly ate breakfast so that  we could get on the road to Red hills. The first part of the road was easy. we crossed over a streem many times. The road was just getting harder to walk on. Eventually we found ourselves climbing up and down the path. There were a couple of spots on the path that we were climbing completely vertical.  After getting to a flat spot we got a drink and rested while another crew passed us. the next distance was not really that hard to hike. we hiked up to the road where we rested and hydrated ourselves. when we got going again it was one of the hardest paths that we walked on. About 2/3rds up the path one of the crew members got altitude sickness so badly that we had to bring him all the way back down the mountain so that the health lodge could take him back to health lodge. The rest of us made it all the way up the mountain safely where we ate lunch and then continued through to Red hill Camp.  When we got to Red Hill we had a hard time choosing a camp site to stay at but we finally decided to stay at the camp that would get us on the trail faster. Set up camp, ate, and went to bed.

Philmont 6 by HFHS

The next morning we awoke to another cold morning. That morning we planed on getting out of there as fast as possible, and we were successful, we ate breakfast and we were gone. Our destination today was Beaubien. The first half mile was like a leisurely walk, but then it git harder. It became very up hill. After a while we stopped for a brake and water. We now had the energy to make it, or so we thought. We reached Phillips junction Commissary where we got food for the rest of the way. There we ate lunch. The new left for Beaubien. The path was very long but it was very easy. When reached the top of the ridge it was down hill from there. We reached camp set up, ate dinner and went to bed.
