Recently we have watched so very interesting shows the most resent was “Can We Go To Mars”. Scientists are working on making us able to go to mars there is still a couple of years left before we can go. If we chose to go now it would take 2.5 years to get there over 1 million pounds of food and would cost a lot. Not only are the trying to make it possible they are trying to make it more comfortable by building better g suites and other things like that. Though we still have a long way to go to mars they have robots there discovering things every day. Many people ask was there life on mars and scientists are finding fossilized bacteria and minerals that are in water. So perhaps there was life once maybe we will live there and find out for sure or maybe it is just a barren wast land.

Science by HFHS

Yesterday, December 15, we learn on the “Nova Science Now” show that they could grow living organs. It was really interesting how they could use a chemical, commonly found in shampoo, to eat away the cells in the organ that was removed from an animal such as a rat. After this process they would just have a sort of frame work of proteins left over. They use the cells of the other rat that they are going to implant the organ into to grow the tissue. This way the body of the rat will not reject it. They can also do this to most any other organ. Even to the human organs.

They had lungs that they got to breathe on their own and heart to beat on their own. It was truly amazing.

Electricity by HFHS

On Wednesday, August 24, we went up in to the attic and looked around for the cords that went to the inoperable switch that is in our hallway. We discovered that the reason for the switch was inoperable was that the power cord was not connected to the switch. We deduced this by looking at the cords for an operable switch in another location. In order to make this switch function we must apply a power source to the switch.

Gardening by HFHS

When trying to garden make
sure you always get all the unwanted grass and nasty weeds out of the area
before you try to plant. Dig up the roots and then mix fertilizer in with the
old dirt to make rich for the little baby plants to grow in. Plant your
garden somewhere it will get plenty of sun and shade, water daily. In order to
prevent the burning of the plants, be sure to mix the fertilizer thoroughly. In
our experience the best fertilizer to use is horse manure but, be warned put it
in before you plant anything or the plants will be burned by the manure.

To be successful
gardener you must be educated in the needs of every plant that you grow. First,
you must know where to plant it, in lots of sun in lots of shade or an equal amount
of both. Second, you need to know the planting times and harvesting times. Next,
you must know how much water to give the plants, too much will drown it and, too
little will dry it up like a prune.

If you plan
on gardening will be there right beside you.I hope you fide our advice useful happy
gardening.

Big cat diary part II by HFHS

Recently the lion pride as given birth to a few new cubs and still low on food but the mothers have seemed to have enough to feed their older and the new cubs and they all seem to been surviving. Zebra and some giraffe came through the lions territory and made great meals.

The cheetahs Cudogo and her cubs have been very unsuccessful the past few weeks and have been struggling to survive hopefully some animals will cross paths with the cheetahs and they will be able to survive the hot summer months.

Halftale and her cub have been quit happy with their life’s and have nun but hyenas to worry about . Her cub is growing very independent and the male of the territory we found mating with another leopards we should have a few new cubs in a few weeks. Food has not been a problem and we saw Halftales cub catch a rabbit her first kill soon the cub will go out and make her own life.

Big cat diary by HFHS

The big cats of the African plains are some extraordinary creatures hunting for food caring for their young and socializing with each other. The last few months have very dry and food has been very scarce usually the plains are black with wildebeest this time of year but no it is completely bare striped of its life. Life has been very hard the big cats have been forced to move away from their home to find some food.

The cheetah is the fastest cat on the plains. It can run up to 60-70 miles an hour  to catch  the antelope, and gazelles warthogs, wildebeest, and game birds that they need to eat to live always on the move for more food. The cheetahs we are currently watching are Cudogo and here two teenage cubs who soon will set of on there own but for now they are under there mothers care.

The lion  king of the jungle ruler of the savannah the large pride we are watching now has two males, nine females, sixteen cubs, two new born cubs and they also have an outcast who is tagging along with the food being scarce and the outcast alone she eat whatever remains from the prides meals. Their diet antelope, gazelles, warthogs, wildebeest, and game birds with the food problem there new born have a very slim chance of survival with out food the mother can not produce enough milk so the cubs can not feed hopefully the tides will turn and the animals will come again.

Leopards my favorite by far weighing up to 140 pounds about 28 inches at the shoulder and have a diet of carrion, fish, reptiles and birds to mammals such as rodents, hares,  warthogs, antelopes, monkeys and baboons..  When a leopard stalks prey, it keeps a low profile and slinks through the grass or bush until it is close enough to launch an attack. When not hunting, it can move through herds of antelopes without unduly disturbing them by flipping its tail over its back to reveal the white underside, a sign that it is not seeking prey. Leopards are basically solitary and go out of their way to avoid one another. Leopards growl and spit with a screaming roar of fury when angry and they purr when content. They announce their presence to other leopards with a rasping or sawing cough. Leopards continually move about their home ranges, seldom staying in an area for more than two or three days at a time. The leopards we are watching are Halftale and her swiftly growing cub who is only a few weeks from independence there life are mostly easy except for hyenas and the other larger cats of the savannah

Oceans by HFHS

Oceans

The ocean is actually very beautiful. Today July-27th we watched this movie on the oceans. It revealed the true beauty of the oceans to me but it also made me sad to see the ocean was so mistreated by the humans. In the movie we saw how we put millions of tons of trash into the ocean. With the satellite technology we can see the real impacted of the pollution to the water. I hope one of these days we are going to learn what a precious gift the ocean is to us and that we should treat it better than we do now.

Oceans by HFHS

This week May, 30th- June-3rd we watched two movies. one of them was called oceans. it was about the “Oceans” and its creatures. The scenes in it were awesome. There were several different species of fish ,amphibians and mammals. My favorite creature that was in this movie was probably the large Galapagos Aquinas that were swimming in the water. It amazes me to think that God created all of this.  The other movie we watch was Called “Natures Fury”.  It was about tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods. I thought it was pretty ironic that we watched this movie right around the time that the eastern Tornadoes and floods were going on. You don’t realize how bad it is until it actually happens. Even though the destruction was so bad in the movie it was nothing compared to Joplin Mo.
