Fr. Barron’s Catholicism Episode: 3

Today, January 16th, my family and I watched the third part of Fr. Barron’s series called “Catholicism.” He spoke a lot about God’s name. I had never realized what God meant when we told Moses “I am who I am.” Fr. Barron said that this means, God is what it is to be. I had always thought that God was saying, I am the one God. Fr. Barron also addressed the fact that we can’t even begin to understand God. We barely understand what is around us how would we understand the one who spoke all of our surroundings into … Continue reading

Fr. Barron’s Catholicism: episode 3

Today, Wednesday on the 16th of January, we watched the 3rd episode of Fr. Barron‘s series on Catholicism. This episode was entitled “The Mystery of God.” In it he tries to capture and help us understand God more fully. In my opinion he really just showed us how little we really know about this amazing God we have. Fr. Barron gives us the example of an Atheists argument, that there is no “God”, and responded to that argument with Thomas Aquinas’ point of view. St. Thomas says, Do you see that cloud, that cloud has a beginning, and an end. Now, lets take it a … Continue reading

The curse of Canaan

In today’s religion lesson we read about Canaan’s curse. Noah was the first man to till the ground after the flood, and one of his crops were grapes. Noah made wine with the grapes and drank the wine thus getting drunk. In Noah’s drunkenness he lays in his tent naked his son, Ham sees him. Ham seeing his father naked and sins. When Ham sinned, Noah curses him and his descendants especially Canaan he said “Canaan you will be a slave to your brothers”.  Noah blesses his two other sons Japheth and Shem who take a blanket and walk backwards to cover their father in order to not see Noah naked.

Creation of the World

“In the beginning God created the Heavens and the Earth” -Genesis 1:1. This weeks lesson of religion was about the creation of all things and the fall of Man. For the most part it was scripture reading, which helped refresh our memories. When God created the world the first 2 days were used to make day and night (Time). The 3rd and 4th days were used to create the sky and sea (Space). The last days were used to make land and vegetation (Life). When God was creating these he also made rulers for each. The Sun and Moon rule over … Continue reading

Concupiscence

Concupiscence- (kän-ˈkyü-pə-sən(t)s) To strongly desire in a sexual way. Some synonyms are lust, eroticism ,or any thing to do with an impure sexual desire. The etymology of the word comes from the Latin word concupiscentia “eager desire” from concupiscence, came concupiscere, incentive of concupere ”to be very desirous of,” cupere ”to long for”. Used in Vulgate to translate Greek  Epithymia a word that conveys the picture of explosive desire. St. Augustine says concupiscence is a consequence of original sin. The Catechism tells us this on impurity and concupiscence: 2520 baptism confers on its recipient the grace of purification from all sins. But the baptized must continue to struggle … Continue reading
