Hank Green tries to convince you that chemistry is not torture, but is instead the amazing and beautiful science of everything! Chemistry can tell us how three microscopic particles – the proton, neutron and electron – come together in trillions of combinations to form … everything. We start out with one of the biggest ideas in chemistry ever – stuff is made from atoms which are made of stuff. More specifically, we learn about the properties of the nucleus and why they are important to defining what an atom actually is. Three things i liked about this episode of Crash Course Chemistry: number one, this is like 4,000,000 times better than reading out of a text-book. Number two he very kindly reminded the ignorant that nucleus is pronounced ˈn(y)o͞oklēəs. Number three he explains why some elemental symbols do not mach their English name. e.g Ag (silver) stands for Argentum which is Latin for “shiny grey stuff. -M
