Republican Party Platform
For the past two weeks we have been reading over the Republican party platform. There is an immense amount of information on what this party plans to do if they are elected as the presidential party. Here is a brief summary about the platform. We, for the most part, agree with this party and here is our take on their views.
The first thing that the party addresses is the restoration of the jobs that were lost by the current administration. They will pursue free market policies which they believe are,“…the surest way to boost employment and create jobs and economic prosperity for all.”,. They want to protect the small businesses because they are the main driving force in the race of technological advancements. With this protection the small businesses and entrepreneurs will be capable of improvements that will better the economic status. The Party also proposes that we lower our spending on unnecessary things and ineffective programs. We agree with this system of job creation.
The next point that they address was that the Obama administration has veered away from a constitutional government and put into play laws and regulations that are unconstitutional. For example, the legalization of gay marriage and the enforcement of abortion( through the HHS mandate). The Republican party Supports traditional marriage and they are against abortion. They also support a government that runs under substantial influence of the constitution and everything that it entails. We agree that our government should be run as our founding fathers intended. W, also, think that abortion and gay marriage are unlawful and is against one of our God given and unalienable rights, life!
The domestic agriculture is a large provider of food, jobs, and more then $135 billion annually, and is very self sufficient, but it rely on foreign industry for fertilizer. On the other hand the energy industry depends on foreign providers for resources such as oil.. The want the energy industry to be more self sustained and less reliant on others. The Republican party feels that the energy industry should be more domestic. One way that they see to get more domestic energy is with coal. It is cheap, and it is abundant. They also feel that the environment is best taken care of when it is under private stewardship because they are better able to address the problem since they live so near it.
Next the Republican addresses Medicare, Medicaid, and Immigration. We started with Medicare and Medicaid. The first thing they said was that they feel it is important to save these programs for the future generation, but it needs to change it’s fiscal situation. They are currently unsustainable. In 2010 they spent over $520 and are expected to double by 2019 and they already have over $37 trillion in unfunded obligations. However, it is deeper than just financial. The problem is that there is to much poor health care and that is worse than it sounds because it prolongs affliction and therefore making it worse. The cause of most of these problems is life style. The Republicans believe that Medicare and Medicaid should assure all their patients that they will get the treatment they need, whether they are expecting mothers or the elderly. The first step that they are going to take is to move away form the current situation and make the 2 programs more self reliant. We agree with what the Republican party has to say and wants to do with these 2 programs
Next ,we looked at immigration. The Republican party recognize that immigrants are making large contributions to the nation. They also believe that “Illegal immigration undermines those benefits and affects U.S. Workers.” They want a two-sided fence that was planned to be built,in 2006 and they say, “… federal funding should be denied to sanctuary cities that violate federal law and endanger their own citizens, and federal funding should be denied to universities that provide in-state tuition rates to illegal aliens, in open defiance of federal law.”,. This is one of the only subjects in which we do not see eye to eye on. We believe there should be an open border and the words “illegal emigrant ” should not exist in America. With open borders more jobs will be made and those who cant find jobs will go somewhere else. More jobs means more income and more income means less debt.
The American family is very valuable and the Republicans believe it should be protected along with traditional marriage, education, and health care benefits. They believe that marriage is important and that there are many benefits including the fact that children are more likely to attend college and be more emotionally stable. In turn they are are more likely to get good jobs and raise good children. They are also less likely to take part in criminal activities, abuse drugs and alcohol, and get pregnant out of marriage. We agree with the Republican party’s stance on traditional marriage.
The next section that the Republican party addresses is about education. They state that the U.S. spends about $10,000 per pupil per year in public school. That means that we spend $550 billion a year. Government has finally discovered that money is not the solution for educational problems. The government has spent more then $2 trillion on elementary and secondary education with no large improvements( the African-American graduation rate is 59% and the Hispanic rate is 63%). The republican party proposes that we increase our focus on the teachers and the home life. They believe that the schools should focus more on math, science, reading, history and geography. Also they feel that the schools should build a kind of transparency so that the public and the parents can see what they are teaching their children and how they are benefiting the community.
They also address the problem in healthcare. The first problem that they address is the fact that most health issues are the result of personal habit. They want to support self responsibility. They also believe that everyone should have healthcare available to them. The Republican party wants to give the states the power to regulate the local insurance so as to help the smaller local government help the people they know best. They also want to create a free market for the healthcare system so to lower cost. They feel that the insurance company should always make sure that the people knows what they are paying for and how much it costs before they under go an operation. They think that the insurance company should be able to provide insurance for those family that are always moving for work. We agree with Republican party’s stance on healthcare and education and family life.
The last group of problems that the platform notes is on our national security. The Republican Party finds that the current national security strategy as all but failed. The flaws in the current strategy are that it is a, “budget-constrained blueprint that, if fully implemented, will diminish the capabilities of our Armed Forces. The strategy significantly increases the risk of future conflict by declaring to our adversaries that we will no longer maintain the forces necessary to fight and win more than one conflict at a time. It relies on the good intentions and capabilities of international organizations to justify constraining American military readiness. Finally, the strategy subordinates our national security interests to environmental, energy, and international health issues, and elevates “climate change” to the level of a “severe threat” equivalent to foreign aggression.”,. The Republican party thinks that the U.S. has a important role in the history of the world and that it is strong and able to defend it’s self against any threat. By the failed strategy and in addition of closing down some of our missile defense operations (which Obama has been doing we) are in a sense weakening our country and if the time comes to defend our selves we will be less likely to succeed.
The Republican Party wants, if elected, to reenforce our alliance with country such as South Asia, Russia, Taiwan, China, and Europe. Also they want to become trading partners with theses countries. Having a closer relationship with theses countries will provide more security for America and her partners. Some of the countries like Korea have been required to shut down nuclear plants to ensure security for our country. We agree that America should have a closer relationship with her fellow countries and that we need more security not as a threat to other counties but as a safety precaution. It is better to be safe that sorry or as the Boy Scout of America slogan says “be prepared”
Overall we agree with this party. Their stance on traditional marriage and abortion especially. The only thing that we don’t agree with is the immigrants. This is our take on the Republican party platform.
