Today in our final lab we studied the formation and dissolving process of crystals. The lab had us grow Epsom salt crystals and Alum( aluminum sulfate) crystals which was very cool. We grew them by dissolving their powder form in water then we put the liquid in petri dishes after that we let the water evaporate out of them. Then we examined the crystals under a hand lens. After that we made sugar glass by putting plain sugar in a small sauce pan and we melted it, being careful not to over cook or burn it. When we thought that it was ready we poured it in to a petri dish and very quickly put it in the refrigerator. When it was cool and hardened we looked to see if we saw any sugar crystals. If it was completely successful the “glass” would have absolutely no crystals left.
