Today, we remember Saint Cyril of Jerusalem, Bishop and Doctor. Born of Christian parents in 315, he succeeded Maximus as bishop of Jerusalem in 348. Involved in the dispute over Arianism, he was more than once punished with exile. His Catecheses, in which he explained to people the true teachings of the faith and of Scripture and also the traditions of the Church, reveal his pastoral zeal. He died in 386.

From ancient times the Church has had the custom of celebrating each day the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering its praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world. Join me in praying the Liturgy of the Hours today and throughout the lenten season.
