Audio of Morning Prayers for March 16, 2009.

Psalm 85; Isaiah 26:1-4, 7-9, 12; Psalm 67; Joel 2:12-13

Today we commemorate Saint Patrick, Bishop. Born in Great Britain about 385, Saint Patrick was captured and sold as a slave in Ireland, where he tended sheep. Escaping from slavery, he chose to enter the priesthood, and later, as a bishop, tirelessly preached the Gospel to the people of Ireland, where he converted many to the faith and established the Church. He died at Down in 461.

“I give unceasing thanks to my God, who kept me faithful in the day of my testing.”

From ancient times the Church has had the custom of celebrating each day the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering its praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world. Join me in praying the Liturgy of the Hours today and throughout the lenten season.
