Morning Prayers March 09 2009

Audio of Morning Prayers for March 09, 2009.

Today we remember Saint Frances of Rome (1384-1440). Desiring to be a nun from childhood, her parents married her to Lorenzo de Ponziani. After a period of struggle, and with the assistance of her patron saint, Saint Alexis, Frances accepted God’s will in her life, and became a model of married virtue. She was known for her care for the poor and sick, and had a vivid spiritual life. Despite the slander of her neighbors, she returned good for evil, habitually praying for them. Frances is reported to have been so lovable that anyone with whom she spoke would immediately feel captivated by love for her and ready to help her in her endeavors.

Psalm 42; Sirach 36:1-5, 10-13; Psalm 19a; Exodus 19:4-6a

From ancient times the Church has had the custom of celebrating each day the Liturgy of the Hours, also known as the Divine Office. In this way the Church fulfills the Lord’s precept to pray without ceasing, at once offering its praise to God the Father and interceding for the salvation of the world. Join me in praying the Liturgy of the Hours today and throughout the lenten season.
